Polar Inertia

Polar Inertia is a great bi-monthly "journal of nomadic and popular culture" featuring themed photo sets such as Lifeguard Stations, Taco Trucks and Shangai Shipping Cranes. A nice artistic archive of urban landscape imagery.

subUrbia

An updated version of Eric Bogosian's "subUrbia" just opened in New York. NY Times review and audio slide show (with nice photos of the cast and set) here.

This is the play that became one of my favourite films.

Here Again

The sun shines high above
The sounds of laughter
The birds swoop down upon
The crosses of old grey churches

We say that we're in love
While secretly wishing for rain
Sipping Coke and playing games

September's here again
September's here again

Everyday Okay

I don't recall how I found it, but I've become a fan of the work of Everyday Okay - a production company consisting of two guys from Australia who dabble (quite successfully) in film, photography and music. There seems to be a fairly strong Boards of Canada influence at work, which is fine by me.

Purely by accident, I found myself watching this Flickr slideshow of Venice Beach images, while listening to this music. It all seemed quite magical. See for yourself.

Logos and Context

Excellent Design Observer article articulates something I've been trying to convey to a couple clients recently. Logos need time and context to show their true value. Many of the world's most powerful logos wouldn't impress you at all, devoid of their history.

Finally...

Somebody sheds light on the mysterious "ice in the arena/rogue helicopter pilot" conspiracy. Ladies and gentlemen, Charlotte NC's David Thompson.
